Honeymoon in Port Blair
Port Blair is the capital city and the largest town in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is also one of the most coveted honeymoon destinations across the world. Located on the eastern coast of the Andaman Islands, it acts as the main gateway to the Union Territory and is currently a major base for both the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard. Conflicting emotions pertaining to region or religion take a backseat here, as the inhabitants welcome each tourist with open arms and a fond heart.
The city is rich in history as it is here that a lot of freedom fighters were sent by the British during the ongoing fight for independence in India. It was during the British rule that the Chatham Island, later renamed as Port Blair, was established. It was used as a detention centre and later turned into a prison now known as the Cellular Jail. Interestingly, Port Blair also served as a temporary headquarters, led Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for the Azad Hind Fauj, before the independence.
Port Blair and the other isles of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, are mostly based on the rich culture and legacy, laid down by the tribal populations, who inhabited the area. As the main gateway to Andaman and Nicobar islands, Port Blair has grown through major infrastructural and community development. Banks, tourist offices, hotels, restaurants, office buildings, transport facilities make the city more convenient for the tourists and are otherwise unavailable in the other isles.
