Kinnaur is a district in Himachal Pradesh bordering with Tibet on the East is a perfect place for honeymoon. It is located 235km from the Capital Shimla. The district has lush green valleys, snow capped mountains and orchards and vineyards. Apart from its beauty, Kinnaur district produces good amount of quality fruits such as Apples, almonds, peaches and apricots. It is also blessed with some beautiful trees not seen often in most part of India like Chesnut, Oak, birches, Magnolia, Maple and many others. Kinnaur enjoys temperate climate with long winters from October to May.
Kinnaur is a mountainous region with an elevation ranging from 2,320m to 6,816m. Due to its difficult accessibility and poor interaction with the rest of the country Kinnars were considered as half human and half gods. It is a very important place for Hindus and Buddhist. Mount Kailash is the home of Shiva, the Hindu mountain gods. It is favorite place for many Hindu pilgrims. There are Buddhist monasteries dating back 1000 years. Recong Peo is known for its monasteries. This is where his holiness the Dalai Lama hosted the Kalachakra event in 1992.
Apart from the fruits orchards and fruit products, Kinnuar is also known for its authentic local crafts. It also has tremendous scope for trekking and sightseeing. The mystery and myths of gods and goddesses surrounding this God bestowed place of pristine forest, hillocks, lush valleys, and snow capped mountains all makes this place an appealing place to visit.
Tourist Attractions at Kinnaur
- Nako Lake
Nako Lake is at an altitude of 3662m. Located on the outskirt of a village and surrounded by poplar and willow trees, this lake is a picturesque and serene heaven. Around the lake are four Buddhist monasteries which can also be visited along with this trip. The lake is fed by milky water from the ice up the slope. This place is also believed to be the heavenly realm of fairies and some prints found on the rocks nearby are believed to be made by the demigods.
- Recong Peo
Recong Peo is the headquarter of the district, but it is also home to some important Buddhist monasteries. One can also get a good view of the rock formation Shivalinga at Kinner Kailash Mountain.
- Moorang
Monkey point is the highest peak in Kasauli and offers stunning view of Chadigarh and low lying plains both at day and at night. There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman.
- Wildlife Sanctuaries:
Wildlife Sanctuaries: There are three well known Sanctuaries in Kinnaur. Lipa Asrang Sanctuary is at an altitude of 4000-5000m and most of it is a cold desert. Some rare animals have been sighted including the Ibex, Yak, Snow leopard, blue sheep, musk, Himalayan black bear etc. Rakchham-Chhitkul Sanctuary and Rupi Bhaba sanctuary are the other two sanctuaries in Kinnaur.

- By Road:NH-22 runs connects Kinnaur to the rest of the country. Buses and taxis plies in abundance.
