The exotic hill-station of Patnitop is situated in the Udhampur district of Jammu & Kashmir. To be more specific, Patnitop lies on the national highway 1A between Srinagar and Udhampur. Patnitop is safely cosseted in the lower Pir Panjal mountain chain. The Chenab River flows languorously below the mountain range.

Getting There

Jammu Tawi the railway station of Jammu town is the closest railhead which is well connected to the four main metros of Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. One can also get to Jammu from Trivandrum which is the southernmost railhead. The nearest airport is in Srinagar, the capital of J&K. One can fly in to Srinagar from any major airport in the country. From Jammu you can get to Patnitop by private transport. Buses also routinely ply from Jammu, Pathankot and Srinagar.

Ideal Time to Visit

Patnitop primarily has a temperate type of climate. Summer temperatures range from 8 degrees centigrade to 20 degrees centigrade although it gets exceedingly cold during the winters. However, if you want to enjoy skiing in the steep slopes then you should be visiting the spot during the winter season that lasts from November till February. On the whole, Patnitop is ideal for visiting at any time of the year.

Located at a very high elevation, Patnitop offers some adventurous treks both short and long. Walking through any of the paths will take you to the surrounding mountains. One of the popular trails is the 11 km trek to Shiva Garh. If you can bear the cold, you should surely soak yourself in any of the three freshwater springs in the region. The gushing ice-cold water is believed to have curative properties. Other popular activities for honeymooning couples are paragliding, skiing, and golfing.
